on a much lighter note, i'm rushing homework and trying to un-jetlag cause it's 4.25pm in poland now O:

k copypasta time from our dear chairman:

Dear all,

I am pleased to report that Raffles Voices has just represented Singapore in the 43rd International Festival of Choir Song in Miedzyzdroje from 23-28 June, in Poland. In the festival, only selected choirs of good standing are admitted into the festival. Led by Young-Artist -Award Winner, Toh Ban Sheng, the 38 boys-travelling choir won gold awards in both Children (1st ) and Sacred (2nd) categories. The choir was also awarded with the Ministry of Education Prize while the conductor a special prize.

The choir impressed both the juries and audiences, notably outperformed two university choirs from Hungary and Poland, and a Spanish Music School Choir, in the Sacred Category.

In the children category, the choir received standing ovation at the end of our 5-song programme. The singers were very moved by the responses, knowing that their singing had touched the audiences. An elderly lady teared when they sang the fourth phrase of Eric Whitacre´s Lux Aurumque. For the requirement of presenting a Polish Modern Work, the choir sang Andrzej Koszewski´s Chrystus Pan sie Narodjil in Polish. Their hard work on perfecting the nuance of the pronunciation to the best of their ability had paid off when a member of the audience shouted "Bravo" immediately following their final chord! He must have understood every word in the song.

The competition in a nutshell

1. Children Choir Category - Gold and 1st prize

2. Musica Sacra - Gold, 2nd place, outperformed 2 university choirs from Hungary and Poland, and a Spanish Music School Choir. 1st place went to a Swedish University Choir from Lund.

3. Special Prize from the Polish Ministry of Education

It was an eye-opening experience for many who travelled for the first time to Europe or an International Choral Festival. The preparation had been intensive in the last week before the tour departure as the conductor only returned with Raffles Chorale of RJC from winning 5 gold, 4 first places and 3 special prizes from its European competition tour 10 days prior. The competition tour, which included educational programmes in Berlin and Sczecin, was enriching to say the least.

The choir would like to thank their conductor, Mr. Toh, for his unwavering dedication, and their teachers, Ms. Chiang and Ms. Yew for their support throughout this trip. This entire journey was only made possible by them.

In addition, the choir would also like to thank its other members back in Singapore, and the alumni, who had been supportive in their many ways!

that's that :D

pictures soon cause they're giant resolutionized and i'm going to upload them somewhere before giving the link (:

WAIT FOR IT.
